2010 Dacia Duster Ice Racer review, picture, price, and more
Alain Prost, widely regarded as one of the fiercest Formula One drivers in history and the most heated rival of the late, great Ayrton Senna, is still hacking up race tracks in France these days, albeit on a much different terrain. The former Formula One Driver’s Champion’s competitive racing juices are now on full display at the Andros Trophy racing series, the national Ice Racing championship of France.
Last year, Prost raced behind the wheel of a Dacia Duster Ice Racer and proceeded to show everybody that despite his age, he still managed to finish runner-up for the season, trailing only two-time Andros champion Jean-Philippe Dayraut on-board his Fabia Skoda MKII.
"I am delighted to be driving the Dacia Duster," said Prost. It is a brand new vehicle, and I am proud to be able to play a part in its promotion to the unusual backdrop of the Trophée Andros. Thanks to the work put in by Renault Sport Technologies, I have every confidence in Dacia Duster's potential and reliability which together point to an extremely exciting season".
The car is 4 metres long, 1.9m wide, weighs 950kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 25 litres. It features a double wishbone suspension and the Renault-Nissan alliance's VQ 30 engine with a displacement of 3.0-litres. Maximum power is 257kW (350hp) at 7,500rpm and peak torque is 360Nm at 5,500rpm. A 6-speed SADEV sequential transmission drives both axles. Wheels are 5.5" x 16" magnesium types shod with Continental Racing Contact 3 tyres.
Dacia Duster has a large benefit from the expertise acquired by Renault Sport Technologies in motor sport. Fiberglass body hides a tubular chassis that houses, three-liter 24-valve V6 engine from the range of Renault-Nissan Alliance. this powerplant has been tuned carefully in order to optimize the potential of performance at high altitudes where the race will be held. It produces 350hp peak power at 7500 rpm and maximum torque of 360Nm at 5500 rpm. Six-speed sequential gearbox ensures fast, precise gearshifts, even when flying through a corner at full song. The location of the mid-rear engine describes the work that has gone to improve weight distribution, in accordance with minimum requirements and weight of 950kg with a view to keeping the center of gravity low and to minimize the polar inertia for improved control.
